What Are Little Corgi Boys Made Of?
Past posts over the years, I’ve hinted a time or two that maybe I should’ve titled this blog “Never A Dull Moment” The other day had me wondering again why I didn’t. Let me explain…
It’s been uncomfortably hot and humid these last days and weeks. I can’t imagine how the Corgi kids must be feeling with all that healthy fur.
One very early morning as I had just picked up their food bowls and about to refresh their water (Cody habitually following close at my heels), I stood frozen in my tracks. Mind racing quickly. What is ominously posed next to that water bowl, calmly observing my moves? A long, good sized (beautiful, mind you) snake! We have rattlers in these parts and I wasn’t taking any chances. With a sense of danger and urgency, I gathered my furry angels and secured them in the garage out of harms way. Dockers barking up a storm at the inconvenience of it all and being shut out of the action. Setting the water hose nozzle to jet, I carefully and quickly escorted our visitor out to the street and sent him on his merry way.
He turned out to be a gopher snake! Thank goodness.
Later that same afternoon, I let the boys out to do their thing. They couldn’t have been outside for more than 10 minutes when I called them back to come inside out of the miserable heat. UGH! Dockers, in a joyful gait, turns the corner with something in this mouth! Tail dangling on one side. I never handle these situations as calmly as I would like to. My initial shriek always gets them to stop in their tracks and drop their prize. GREAT! Now I’m not letting them inside and NOW I’ve got to pick up this poor deceased field mouse.
Although I’ll never get used to these tokens and treats the boys sometimes bring to me, I am appreciative that they mean to share their catch with us. However, I do shirk any cuddly contact and kisses for awhile as visions of my furkids-turned-predator, linger in my mind.
Never a dull moment, right?
🙂 I’d love to hear your Corgi stories too and what kind of surprises they bring you! 🙂
I’ve rewritten a popular nursery rhyme in honour of these recent Corgi events…
What are little Corgi boys made of?
Snakes and field mice
and minus puppy-dogs’ tails,
That’s what little Corgi boys are made of.
