Catching Up with My Corgi
Life happens and sometimes…many times, I overlook how much my mood, body language and demeanor can be read like an open book by my furkids. To Docker’s credit, or perhaps his detriment, he can read me. I even find that sometimes I try to mask if I’m upset for his benefit because I know he can see right through me and it affects him too.
While Nikita and Cody are perceptive in their own right, there is this bond I have with Dockers that has always been there since the day we brought him home to share our lives together. Over the years, adding Nikita and Cody to our pack unfortunately and inevitably shifted and changed our relationship as he became the Alpha and my attentions and affections were shared with more members. We almost lost him in February when a brawl between him and Nikita left him at Death’s door. When I look at him now, I know it’s was nothing short of timing, excellent veterinarians, his determination and our love that pulled him through. It was not his time and he is still with us for a reason. I make sure to have more quiet moments for just the two of us.
On this early afternoon, Doc hung out with me while I worked in my office and he granted me permission to snap some images (he’s lovingly patient). The furkids are not allowed on the furniture, but I carried my boy to rest on top of this bench for his ultimate comfort.
