A Corgi Love – Playing Ball
That sense of “Team” and pack membership gets fostered when we engage in our game of ball. As I’ve mentioned in past posts, it was effortless teaching Nikita and Cody the game of ball, good sportsmanship and what’s expected when retrieving and returning the prized ball to me. It was effortless because Dockers teaches them by example. When Cody was added to our pack and game, it was both Dockers and Nikita that helped guide our new member and puppy through the protocol.
Sure, I have a part in the teachings and expectations too. However, I credit where credit is due. The enjoyment in the interaction is that there is an order to the play.
We haven’t been playing lately due to Docker’s injury. I thought about stealing a game or two with Nikita and Cody, but there is no where in the house or yard that Dockers wouldn’t be aware of it….and if he knew a game of ball was taking place and he couldn’t be a part of it, it would make him terribly sad and frustrated. Just a couple more weeks until the wire brace in his mouth is removed.
Side note: The gloves in the picture next to Doc, are the gloves I wear when we play. It’s essential in, not only keeping my hands cleaner from the wet, slobbered on ball, but every now and then – my hands have been caught. No matter how careful we all are, it is sometimes inevitable.
